Glitters from Foilplay

Perhaps I should first explain how I got started Cardmaking and Stamping. I got hooked while awaiting surgery. The condition I had would often wake me up in the middle of the night with pain and at 2am there is not really a great deal to watch on Television except for Shopping Channels - I found Create and Craft and got hooked. Through that I ended up becoming a member of a craft forum, Craft Telly, and on that forum I met Winspiration, the owner of Foilplay, and found out that she stocks a fabulous range of glitters..... not sure if I have said this before, but I am a glitter junkie as well as a stamp and ink addict... if it sparkles it's MINE. Anyhow the end result was that I bought some glitters from Win, who I might add offers not only great prices but also excellent service to her customers. The glitters are lovely, ultra fine art quality and have become a mainstay of my craft stash, especially for Christmas cards.

Recently Win asked if some of the forum members would design some cards for her to use to illustrate her products, and she has even sent me some foils to try, so watch this space for my first efforts using foils. But meantime here is my first card for Foilplay using some of Winspirations delicious glitters.

I have used one of my all time favorite stamps, the Floral Spray Themeplate from Elusive Images - an all time favorite because it is such a verstile image. I stamped and then heat embossed the image onto black card using Silver EP. Then applied the glitters from Foilplay using a Sakura Quickie Glue Pen, also supplied by Foilplay. This was mounted onto sliver mirror card and then onto pearlescent card in a lovely amythyst colour that co-ordinates perfectly with the colours of the glitter. Personally I think the end result just looks scrumptious and I wish I could show you the card for real because the camera just does not capture the intensity of the sparkle from the glitter.

  2. Ooh! I'm excited to see what you'll be doing with foil. I'm about to get a Cuttlebug and have seen some great pieces made with foil run through the Cuttlebug. I've never used foil before but might have to add it to my wishlist when I've seen your samples. Good luck with those.

  4. jo, I think you are thinking about the wrong kind of foils. The kind I have from Foilplay are the kind you rub on over adhesive. For example you use something like a quickie glue pen to write a message then rub the very thin foil over it. These foils are tissue thin, I dont think you can put them thru a cuttlebug, but winspiration would know - if you check out her site she does have a FAQ section for using foils.

  5. Ah yes, they are different. But I see FoilPlay has my embossing foils too. I haven't tried either. Good job you mentioned it or I might have bought the wrong sort by mistake. I'll still be interested to see how you get on. Can your foils be used with stamps and Versmark like gold leaf? Sounds like the possibilities could be endless.

  6. Hi again jo, to be honest, despite the fact I have been eyeing up Winspiration's foils for a long time I never actually got round to buying any as other things tended to keep pushing them down my wish list, errrrr blame Glenda Waterworth for producing so many lovely stamp designs and CDs.....

However win kindly sent me a starter pack to try when I said I would make some cards for her Foilplay site.... so I am a newbie to this. I do however have one of those new Tsukineko "Essential Glue Pads" - its' kind of like Versamark but stickier as it is a real glue. I believe versamark is tacky because it contains glycerine rather than an actual adhesive, however don't quote me on that as I am not sure if that information is acurate. I also have a pot of Stamp 'N' Bond - bought it by mistake when I was a total newbie thinking I was buying clear embossing powder. The Stamp 'N' Bond works like an EP in that you stamp first with Versamark, sprinkle on the Stamp N Bond then heat it. However after heating it stays tacky for a while and you are supposed to be able to sprinkle on glitter or use the rub on foils while it is tacky. I plan to experiment with it this week some time along with the "Essential Glue Pad".

  9. That's given me some new ideas. I love anything from lavender through to purple. I have this stamp and would never have thought of using it this way. It's beautiful and thanks for sharing it with us.
